COLLAGE CLASSESMagnolia and Magnolias Collage Class by April Holifield
Ake a beautiful Magnolia or a cluster of magnolias, size of a Fat Quarter The choice is yours in this class. We will use double sided fusible to cut shapes and fuse them together to create these beautiful flowers. At the end of the class, we will have a discussion on how to finish the creation you just worked on, so many ways to use them, like a block, Pillow or a wall hanging and I’m sure many more uses. NO SEWING MACHINE IS NEEDED FOR THIS CLASS Your stitching will be done on your own in the comfort of your sewing area. This allows you more time to work on your flowers. Supplies 1 ½ yard of light weight double sided fusible webbing. Scissors, fabric, sharp and pointed, also paper scissors. Iron and Matt A fabric marking pen of your choice or chalk pencil. Ink pen and paper. Fabric (the fun part) Background is a Fat Quarter of medium value (you want to make sure your dark leaves and light flowers stand out) Leaves 2 Fat Quarters, 1-Dark green and 1-Medium Green Flowers 4 x 4 small yellow or gold for center Fat Quarter of each WHITE - OFF WHITE – VERY LIGHT TAN (Note, you also may use other colors for your flowers, keep your fabrics in the light color range) Flying High Collage Class This is a design that I made on a jacket in memory of a special person. So many have commented on it and said they saw things in the design, this has made me decide to over it in a class. My version of this design was my nephew got his wings and moved towards the light, in my personal design I have added many things to it, which you can add your personal items once the basic design in done. My friend said she sees an Angel looking towards the light, so many other interpretations have come out of this. Here is your chance to make one to express your vision. It is fun and simple, not as hard as it looks. At the end of you are assembling yours we will have simple items for you to embellish yours, or you are welcome to bring yours to add to it. So many options in this design. The two photos are what yours will look like when finished in class. Let us have fun and try something different. NO SEWING MACHINE IS REWUIRED FOR THIS CLASS! Supplies Fat Quarter for your background your choice of color (please nothing busy we do not want it to take away from your work) Wings - Color 1 16 x 10 Feathers - (or Dress) 3 distinct colors each 8 x 5 Color 2 8 x 5 Color 3 8 x 5 Circles 5 colors dark to light 1- 14 x 12 2 – 10 x 10 3 - 10 x 10 4 – 6 x 6 5 - 6 x 6 Sun and Other Circles vary colors to blend with your color scheme 3 - 4 x 4. Double sided Fusible webbing 1 ½ yards or more if you want to add extras. Scissors, sharp pointed fabric also Paper Scissors Fabric Marking pen or chalk. Ink pen and paper. Iron and matt. I will share with you my process of making art quilts with the process of picking fabrics to stitching. Level- Beginner to Advanced Techniques- Collage and Decorative Stitching Supply List Scirssors (fabric and paper) Pins Marker or Chalk (disappearing) Glue (white water base or glue stick) Several colors of thread and bobbins to match our color choose of materials Sewing machine and basic supplies used with your machine Optional: a design board Fabric Bright colors of fabric (can all be scraps 2 inches or larger for lures) Pieces of red and white in a few shades (for stoppers) Background fabric- 3 squares of 11x11 inches of any color you would like Borders- One- 2 1/2-inch strips, Two- 3 1/2 x 17 1/2-inch strips, Two 3 1/2 x 44-inch strips Batting larger than finishes size of 18x44 Backing fabric larger then finished size of 18 x 44 Binding 130 inches |
